Overview

The Town of Pittsford, with its ties to the Erie Canal, measures just over 23 square miles and is located only eight miles from the City of Rochester with all of its cultural and entertainment possibilities. Not that Pittsford needs any help in that department. A wealth of restaurants - many offering live music - combined with vibrant arts programs and rich history make living within the boundaries of Pittsford quite complete. St. John Fisher College and Nazareth College are located here, adding to the arts and academic possibilities.

Once largely farmland, Pittsford is now home to upscale housing developments where residents live in large modern homes surrounded by meticulous and expansive lawns. One exception can be found on Knickerbocker Road where the Knickerbocker Family Farm has been in operation for over 150 years! In the village of Pittsford, historical homes are located on tree-lined streets. Residents can walk along Main Street, grab something to eat, shop, or maybe enjoy an ice cream on a park bench.

Who Lives Here

Residents of Pittsford are by and large professional adults who enjoy their upscale community and who are determined to provide the best for their families. The area is dedicated to doing well by its youth and to maintaining a good life.

Essentials

Home of the Wegmans Flagship store in Pittsford Plaza, the town supports all manner of shopping within its boundaries. Schoen Place, a charming historic center along the Erie Canal, provides gift shops, eateries, and more. Pittsford Plaza houses restaurants, a movie theatre, hair salons, jewelers, gifts, crafts, a liquor store and such.

Recreation & Entertainment

Here in Pittsford, major sporting events are a highlight of the entertainment scene. The annual LPGA tour is held each year in June at Locust Hill County Club; and Oak Hill County Club has hosted the Ryder Cup, the U S Open and several PGA Championships. Adding to these impressive sports events is the Buffalo Bills summer training camp, housed at St. John Fisher College. Residents also enjoy a vibrant restaurant scene with some of the region’s favorite establishments located here, some offering live music.

Transportation & Traffic

Most assuredly, there can be traffic tie-ups in this densely traveled area. The main arteries which cut through the region are Monroe Avenue/State Street (Rt. 31) and Jefferson Road; with Main Street dissecting both of them. Both I-490 and I-590 are nearby, providing easy access for commuters.

Pros & Cons

Pittsford is an example of suburban housing development at its best, with many exemplary neighborhoods. The well-traveled streets of Pittsford can be difficult to maneuver at times with drivers often becoming impatient at traffic lights.
