Overview

Located in the Town of Perinton, the Village of Fairport is a lovely suburb of Rochester, dubbed the "Crown Jewel of the Erie Canal." In fact, much of life in Fairport is centered on the Canal area with Village Landing and Packett's Landing offering the main gathering spots for residents. Known for its quiet, tree-lined streets, specialty shopping, and family-oriented neighborhoods; Fairport is home to Casa Laga Vineyards, Monroe County's only winery, and to Lollypop Farm, the rescue center for the Humane Society of Greater Rochester.

Good to Know
The Fairport Fire Department is a volunteer service handling fire and emergency medical needs in the area. The Fairport Police Department patrols the streets of the village. Fairport Public Library is located at 1 Fairport Village Landing. (585) 223-9091.

Fairport Historical Museum is located at 18 Perrin Street. It houses exhibits on farming, Erie Canal development, industry, local architecture and early settlers.

Who Lives Here

Life is good in Fairport. Residents enjoy lovely, upscale surroundings, natural beauty and historical importance. Families are able to take advantage of great schools and a strong recreational program, while residents of all ages enjoy the many free outdoor events planed all year long.


Essentials

Fairport’s commercial district at the Erie Canal is home to any number of interesting shops featuring books, dollhouses, gifts, art, jewelry, clothing, unique eateries and more including a Wegmans located on Fairport Road


Recreation & Entertainment

The Colonial Belle tour boat leaves from Packett's Landing; and Main St. in the Canal area boasts multiple restaurant and pub locations, many featuring terrific food and live entertainment.


Transportation & Traffic

Main Street (Rt. 250) runs directly thru Fairport, as does Church Street (Rt. 31F). Whitney Road and Turk Hill Road border the village; while High Street also acts as a main road.


Pros & Cons

In 2005, Fairport was named by Money Magazine as one of the "Best Places to Live" and the locals firmly believe that to be true. Occasionally, residents have to surrender their peaceful streets to tourists as crowds enjoy the Canal district.
